JOIN US ON THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2018 to protest the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) latest policy on curtailing visitation to twice a month for a minimum of 2 hours per visit. This is being seen as an effort to push video visitation at a rate of $2.95 for 15 minutes to reap huge profits for Securus Technologies who also own JPay. But there is no embrace or human touch with video visitation. It should be a last resort not a forced option.
Under this new policy, a spouse will only hug her husband, that is serving life, twice a month! A child will only kiss their mom/dad on rare occasion. The familial bond will be weakened, at the very least, and tensions in the prison will rise sharply. FDC’s misconception of keeping staff and inmates safe with this new policy flies in the face of good common sense and a minimal knowledge of human behavior. Removing the human factor compromises security in any setting.
